Inverurie Cricket Club |
At the meeting held in 1931, Jack Milton was appointed as Secretary of the club. This proved a sound choice as Jack became "Mr Cricket" in Inverurie for over 35 years, continuing as Secretary for the first 7 years, and then as President for over a quarter of a century.
The President elected in 1931 was Sam Cope, father of Rye, a future stalwart of St Ronald and President of the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association (ACA) from 1978 to 1980. It was Sam Cope and Jack Milton who were responsible for Inverurie being accepted into Grade 1. This entailed many visits to Aberdeen, and many heated arguments with the ACA. These two Inverurie men were very determined, and Inverurie CC were eventually accepted into Grade 1 cricket, thus beginning one of the finest periods in the club's history.
The Honorary President appointed in 1931 was Captain Kellas, a local businessman, who became a very good friend of the newly formed club. During his 9 years as Hon. Pres. he presented the club with bats, gloves, watches and trophies, and entertained the Aberdeenshire players and officials in the Kintore Arms, at his own expense, after their annual match against a Select at Inverurie.
